Has Nintendo finally remembered Mario RPGs were, and still are, widely beloved titles? It appears like this may be the case, as Nintendo closed out today’s Nintendo Direct by announcing the return of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
No firm details were announced to go along with this. Still, we can at least get a feel for how the game will look in an HD environment. It seems like the plot details will remain intact, and the trailer music indicates we’ll get some tasty rearrangements of the original’s music. While I wish I had more to report here, I’m psyched to see this older style of Paper Mario earn a second chance. I’ve got my hopes up for this one!
I’m not quite sure whether this will veer closer to a remake or a remaster. Within minutes of this announcement, fans began combing over the trailer to spot anything that wasn’t in the original game. For context, The Super Mario RPG remake announcement earlier this year didn’t explicitly state new details either. We can’t confirm much now, but we can at least hope.
Either way, we’ll surely find out more as we approach the release of The Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door in 2024.
