Official Xbox Magazine has the first details on Splinter Cell: Conviction‘s co-op modes, and yeah, they sound hot.
No, Sam Fisher won’t be getting a partner. The six-hour, four-level prologue campaign puts players in the role of a Russian named Kestrel and an American named Archer. While many of the skills shown off for the single-player campaign remain intact, cooperatives-specific moves have also been added. An example has one player getting grabbed from behind and then being able to elbow his partner to get a better shot.
The OXM article also reveals another set of multiplayer modes collectively called “Deniable Ops.” In “Hunter,” players work together to take out all NPC enemies on a map. “Infiltration” is just like “Hunter,” expect it must be done entirely using stealth. “Last Stand” has player fending off waves of enemies to protect a warhead. Finally, “Face Off” is a competitive mode where players face off against random AI-controlled enemies.
All in all, it sounds like Ubisoft is working to provide some decent experiences beyond the single-player, which already looks to be shaping up great. Look for a demo of Splinter Cell: Conviction in January in preparation for the game’s release in February.
