In a recent interview, Kojipro creative producer Yoshikazu Matsuhana explained why Metal Gear Solid won’t be appearing on the recently announced Metal Gear Solid HD collection. According to him, the game’s polygon count is far too low and an HD reissue won’t mean very much.
“Metal Gear Solid 1 was for the PSone,” he said. “It has a very, very low polygon count. While at the time the game was something new and refreshing, just bringing it as is into HD probably wouldn’t have that much meaning to us.
“We’re doing two and three with a certain work flow where the goal is to take that game, preserve it and introduce it to a new generation. We can’t really take that approach with Metal Gear Solid 1 because it’s very dated at this point.”
Kojipro said that if his team would ever remake Metal Gear Solid, it would be more of a re-imagining, with an updated story and enhanced gameplay.
This is the bit where you mention Twin Snakes for the GameCube and wonder why the Hell they’re not including that.
