No Man’s Sky is currently on Expedition 14 called The Liquidators which is part of the massive Worlds Part I update. With five phases to complete, each with its own set of milestones and rewards, there’s fresh content currently in the game for players, even as the game enters its eighth year since its release in 2016. The free expedition takes players to various planets where they must eliminate swarms of vile broods and other biological horrors.
Speaking of other biological horrors, one of the milestones requires players to go predator-hunting deep into the oceans. The Blood in the Water milestone is likely going to take some extra effort from players during the No Man’s Sky Liquidators expedition. While most of the other milestones are pretty self-explanatory, the Blood in the Water can be a struggling point, especially if you have not explored the oceans on the planets you’ve visited in No Man’s Sky.
The milestone requires players to lure 3 deep-sea monstrosities as per the objective mentioned in the game. However, the objective progress only counts when you have also successfully defeated three of these creatures. Upon completion of this milestone, players are rewarded with one Hypnotic Eye, and a pre-packaged Efficient Water Jets Unit.
The Blood in the Water milestone can be completed by heading deep into the ocean of a planet with lifeforms present on it. While eliminating these creatures is the easy part, the trickier part is actually finding them.
How to find Alluring Specimen
To lure deep-sea monstrosities, players have to find Alluring Specimen in the ocean. These are bait laid out by the creatures to attract smaller prey for easy hunts. These Alluring Specimen have Hadal Cores on them which are valuable items, especially when you sell a bunch of them together which can make you a sizeable number of units in No Man’s Sky.
While the scanner detects nearby points of interest in the ocean, you can only find Alluring Specimen when you are inside the ocean and are using your Analysis Visor to find Alluring Specimen. There’s no set trick to finding these lures, so players do not have any option other than to explore the oceans until they come across Alluring Specimen.
However, it is possible to get a quick headstart for this milestone by heading to the Space Station and using the teleporter gateway to see all the bases, and there are a couple of bases built by other players that are near the ocean and an Alluring Specimen.
Tips for finding deep-sea monsters
This can help No Man’s Sky players find at least one deep-sea monster, but they would still have to find two more. This head-start is only recommended for players who are well-equipped for deep-sea exploration. So, if you are missing vital upgrades to increase your oxygen stamina in the game, do make those upgrades or else you’ll be spending a lot of time just going back and forth between the top of the water and back into the ocean to find Alluring Specimen.
Moreover, some of the No Man’s Sky bases may be on planets with extreme weather. So make sure you have enough resources to charge your protection technologies and have enough oxygen in your inventory to keep replenishing your health.
Also, make sure you steal the Hadal Core as it will be triggering the arrival of a sea monster. You may end up wasting an opportunity to find the monster if you decide to destroy the lure trap instead. Good luck, fellow traveller!
