[Update: Double Coins is coming to the US, but the free game has not been announced.]

There it is again: that phrase “in Japan!” Time to get jealous again, as Nintendo is kicking off their initiative to sell fully downloadable titles on the 3DS with two first party games next week.

If you buy Five Minute Demon Training, or New Super Mario Brothers 2 in Japan, you can net Donkey Kong for free on the 3DS Virtual Console. You’ll also earn double Club Nintendo coins, and you’ll nab added bonus coins if you get both games.

Well, I don’t know about you guys, but I’m at the point where I’m comfortable with occasionally buying digital versions of retail games if the bonuses are right.

If Nintendo brings this campaign stateside, I’ll be comparison shopping for sure — and considering Nintendo games rarely, if ever drop in price, I can see myself taking the free game and extra coins over a physical box and manual.
