Deadpool sets up the hype in the trailer for a Wolverine and Sabretooth fight, since the last time Hugh Jackman and Tyler Mane locked horns as Wolverine and Sabretooth was 24 years ago. Wolverine against Sabretooth has been a regular match-up in the comics. Similar to Wolverine, Sabretooth has regenerative capabilities and also has sharp claws to aid him in battles.

Apart from the Sabretooth introduction, the trailer mostly featured clips from scenes that have already been featured in previous trailers. The new trailer outlines a rough sketch of why Deadpool and Wolverine are teaming up. Deadpool explains in the trailer that he is about to lose his world, with the Time Variance Authority most likely having a part to play in it.

The TVA is tasked with pruning alternate timelines, and after the post-credit scenes of Deadpool 2, there are branching timelines created by Deadpool which they’ll probably have to come in and fix. We also see Alioth during the trailer, the creature who first appeared in the Loki series. Given that Alioth exists in the Void, the fight with Sabretooth might be taking place there too.

It has also been revealed that the Wolverine we see in the movie comes from a timeline where he could not save his people, or as Mr. Paradox puts it in the trailer, “This Wolverine let down his entire world.” So, there’s a redemption arc in the making for Wolverine.

Deadpool and Wolverine will hit theatres on July 26, 2024.
