Warner Bros. Interactive’s madcap brawler MultiVersus might only be in its pre-release stages, but already players and developers are noticing that some members of its colorful roster are just a little too handy with the ol’ fisticuffs, and are currently on The List to receive a good old fashioned nerfing.

Responding to feedback from the game’s recent closed alpha, MultiVersus director Tony Huynh has noted that four characters, in particular, seem to be dishing out far more doses of digital pain than others. First on the list is DC Comics’ anti-hero Harley Quinn, who is joined by Adventure Time heroes Finn and Jake, and finally, Original MultiVersus Character Do Not Steal Reindog. Huynh notes that this quartet will receive larger “punish windows,” which one would assume means that they will be easier to counter when they whiff their zany attacks.

Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg, and MultiVersus is likely to see a ton of adjustments as it progresses from Alpha to Beta, and from Beta to Launch. Alongside character balance updates, developer Player First Games will also be looking at fixing bugs, improving stability, tweaking matchmaking, and all other elements that make up the core essentials of any successful fighting game.

While MultiVersus is, admittedly, pushing into a ridiculously crowded market, the closed alpha has shown promise, even hooking in a party of non-fighting game players. It’s a star-studded slapfest, that’s for sure, and I’m looking forward to following the title’s progression toward its eventual release, scheduled for later in 2022.

MultiVersus is currently in development for PlayStation, PC, and Xbox platforms. Did you check out this weekend’s alpha? If so, then spill your thoughts in the comments, and be sure to check out our own CJ Andriessen’s impressions right here.
