When exactly? Great question
It’s going to be a real struggle to not just call the next Resident Evil game “Resident Evil 8.” In a developer video posted alongside yesterday’s announcement, producers Tsuyoshi Kanda and Pete Fabiano acknowledge “It’s Resident Evil 8, just not in name.” It’ll take a few tries for Resident Evil Village to take root in my brain.
We’ll get another crack at eliminating the ocho when we get the opportunity to again cover Resident Evil Village during Summer Game Fest:

That sounds like good news, but it’s a bit more vague than it first appears. Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest is an ongoing thing, and it has grown to include pretty much every games-related stream that’s being held over the next three months. So, that message from Capcom could literally mean there’s more Village information tomorrow in the PC Gaming Show, or it could be coming in August as part of the gamescom presentation.
Ever the optimists, we like to think we won’t have to wait all that long. June 22 is the first proper Summer Game Fest stream that’s presented by The Game Awards. That seems like a good time to learn more about Resident Evil Village — long enough after the reveal to let it all sink in, but soon enough that everyone’s still buzzing. If it doesn’t show up on June 22, then we’ll just have to watch the other 3,587 summer streams in hopes that we get our Redfield fix.
