Unknown Worlds, the makers of Natural Selection and Subnautica, are making something a little different once again. Moonbreaker is a new game, set in a new universe, that’s all about tactical battles with minis.

Shown off during today’s Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022, Moonbreaker is a turn-based sci-fi strategy game with mini-figure battles.

Players put together a crew and captain, and then battle each other in strategy bouts. Unknown Worlds describes it as quick to pick up, hard to put down. You’ll also accrue Unit Mastery over time, and have the chance to unlock more units the more you play.

Unknown Worlds also got some help in putting together the universe for MoonbreakerMistborn author Brandon Sanderson worked with Unknown Worlds to create the original universe for Moonbreaker.

Paint the figs

As a turn-based strategy fan, there’s already a lot to like here. But what really got me about this was the customization options behind the mini-figs. Moonbreaker will have an option to paint all the figures in your army, adding a little bit of extra flair to your crew.

If any of this looks appealing to you, it won’t be long until you get to check it out. Moonbreaker goes into Early Access on September 29. And if even that is too far off, there will also be a few free preview sessions available before the Early Access launch.
