Every so often Magic: Arena will patch in a special event: something from classic Magic paper history like pauper or something wackier, exclusive to Arena. Well with several weeks of War of the Spark, the latest expansion, behind us, we’re going to be getting a little bit of both worlds.

Wizards of the Coast has announced that a series of War of the Spark special events will be held in honor of the huge story buildup that’s been happening for the last several years. Weekly events will run from May 23 all the way through June 28, with five weeks of festivities in all.

Week one involves a “Part 1: Ravnica at War” series, which sees players take control of a 96-card Momir deck with a War of the Spark twist: as one of each Planeswalker from the set is included. Week two is a pauper event (all common cards), week three is Singleton (one copy of each card), week four is Counters (“includes an emblem that puts an extra +1/+1 counter on anything with one on it already, an extra loyalty counter on Planeswalkers, and Amass 1”) and week five is a Ravnica block only format called “Gideon’s Sacrifice.”

The latter is basically a preview of what the next standard rotation will look like later this year when Ixalan, Rivals, Dominaria, and Core Set 2019 cycle out, and intrigues me the most (no Teferi, Hero of Dominaria, is going to change quite a bit on its own).
