Lupe ‘The Beastiest’ Fiasco
You may remember that it was announced a while ago that rapper Lupe Fiasco wanted to go head-to-head against Daigo ‘The Beast’ Umehara in Street Fighter V. At the time, I thought a rapper taking on one of the world’s best fighting game players would end horribly, with Fiasco ending up as nothing but a smear on an arcade stick.
But guess what: Fiasco only went and bloody won.
In the biggest David and Goliath moment in fighting game history, Fiasco managed to beat Daigo 3-2. The very last round, in particular, was amazing, with Fiasco able to pull it back from the brink of defeat to secure the win.
Now you could be a cynical arse and think Daigo purposefully lost the match, but consider the fact that Daigo is renowned for being a cold-hearted, merciless beast who takes no prisoners. Do you think he’d allow someone with half an hour of training to beat him at the launch event for a new Street Fighter game? Me neither.
In fighting game parlance, that fight was hype as shit. Yeah, I’m down with the kids.
