The next addition to Riot Games’s League of Legends is called Dominion. This new mode is essentially a capture-the-flag style gametype where each team has to take over and defend key points on the map. The new mode takes place on the new map called “Crystal Scar,” a “highly contested, war-torn mining village” detailed in the debut trailer here.

Dominion is designed for fast-paced action so matches will last around 20 minutes on average. The new update will also bring with it new items, improved ping system, new scoreboard, improved announcer system and Dominion only matchmaking.

The best part? All this new content will be free! The Dominion game mode will be playable at gamescom and at PAX Prime later this month. As for the release date, Ryan Scott, Lead Champion Designer, told us that Dominion will be out very shortly after they’re shown off at the conventions.

That’s the quick-hits version of the news. For an actually fully fleshed out hands-on preview, check out what new contributor Lori Navarro has to say about Dominion.
