Vincent was a popular (optional) party member in 1997’s Final Fantasy 7 on PS1 because, uh… How much time do you have to talk about the ‘90s? Never mind, you might be wondering if he’s in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Yeeeah. He is. But, that comes with some bad news.
When do you meet Vincent in FF7 Rebirth?
You don’t bump into everyone’s favorite mulleted vampire until way late in the game. If you’re familiar with the plot of the PS1 version, Chapter 11 is when the party arrives at Nibelheim, the last free-roam region in the game.
Once you visit Cloud and Tifa’s hometown, you then proceed to Shinra Manor where the corporation worked on some of its mad science. There, you meet Vincent. I don’t know how to put this, but after an encounter, he joins you, but doesn’t join your party. He has a part in the narrative, but doesn’t actually join in the fight.
Is Vincent playable in FF7 Rebirth?
You might think that, even if Vincent doesn’t join your proper party, he might join as a “Guest” party member like Red XIII did in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, but that’s the bad news. Vincent doesn’t really do anything aside from being present. He doesn’t even join your bench party in slinging attacks from outside the boundaries of the battle. He’s just along to have a say and look pretty. In this sense, he’s a lot like Cid.
Chances are that Vincent will become playable in the last chapter of this new Final Fantasy VII trilogy. However, in FF7 Rebirth, he’s mostly ornamental.
