Is Marathon on Xbox and PC?

A return to an old IP

Bungie’s Marathon will be a grand return to an age-old IP from the developer. Before Halo took over the world, Marathon was a ’90s sci-fi adventure that felt like a callback to Doom and Wolfenstein. The franchise is returning to PlayStation systems as a PvP extraction shooter in an evolving environment. But what platforms is it hitting?

Is a Marathon port coming to Xbox?

Despite showing up at the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase stream and the more important fact that Bungie being owned by Sony; there will be a Marathon Xbox and PC port. This is confirmed on the official website for the game, and it will be cross-play and cross-save compatible (you can play with any of your friends, no matter the system they have). The neat thing is that you can also transfer your progress from a PS5 to an Xbox Series X if you want to.

It’s strange that PlayStation is allowing Marathon to release on a rival console, but Bungie has reassured fans in the past that Destiny 2 content will not be changing. “Bungie retains full creative independence for our games and our community,” said the developer in a Q&A. “Our plans for the Light and Dark Saga are unchanged, all the way through The Final Shape in 2024.” Marathon coming to Xbox and PC is a sign that this commitment to Xbox and PC players remains unchanged.

How does Marathon play?

No Marathon gameplay has been shown as of the time of writing. However, we do know we’ll “compete for survival, riches, and renown in a world of evolving, persistent zones, where any run can lead to greatness,” according to Bungie’s official website. It’s agonizing to get only a CG announcement trailer, but hopefully, we’ll get new information soon.
