In a year full of Soulslike games, Lords of the Fallen was released not even a full month after Lies of P. With both games both being Soulslike titles and their close release proximity, players are surely comparing the two in every way. Unfortunately, the question of whether or not Lords of the Fallen is harder than Lies of P is a bit of a tricky one.
Lies of P has 25 bosses, while Lords of the Fallen has 30 in total. With so many bosses between the two, there are surely to be some varying degrees of difficulty across all encounters.
Does Lords of the Fallen have harder bosses than Lies of P?
In short, both titles have easy, challenging, and absolutely insanely difficult bosses. Unfortunately, both games suffer from boss encounters that I call “unfair”. What I mean by unfair is that the difficulty doesn’t come from them having challenging mechanics. In comparison, most boss fights in the Souls series can be studied, learned, and then defeated. But in both, there are boss fights that just spam hard to evade attacks or will start holding the timing of attack animations to further disrupt you.
In an effort to answer this question more specifically, let’s compare encounters from both titles that are not unfair. For the most part, LotF has harder bosses than LoP if you are to compare each fight in totality. However, I think a couple of the end bosses in LoP are actually harder than the end bosses in LotF.
Another important part of this equation is the NPC which can assist you in fights. If you plan to make use of them in either game, then Lords of the Fallen is probably harder overall. In LoP, the specters actually take a good bit of the aggro from bosses when you first start the fight. In some cases, I was able to do 50% or more of the damage to a boss before the NPC would die. But in LotF, the helpers often seemed useless. They’d either die right away or even stand in your way preventing damage. Most of the time, their damage output was incredibly negligible.
Altogether, I’d say Lords of the Fallen is harder than Lies of P. Of course, this may differ depending on your play style and level of expertise with the Soulslike genre.
