If, like me, you enjoy the Far Cry series, then you may have noticed that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora looks mighty familiar. Almost suspiciously familiar, in fact. So what’s the deal? Is it connected to the Far Cry games?

Is Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora a Far Cry game?

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora isn’t a Far Cry game in terms of being part of the Far Cry franchise. However, it does share more than a few similarities that can be explained.

To start, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Far Cry are both published by Ubisoft. Additionally, the developer of Frontiers of Pandora, Massive Entertainment, previously assisted with the development of Far Cry 3. However, that’s not what Massive Entertainment is best known for. In recent years, the studio is most famous for developing The Division and The Division 2.

As for Far Cry, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora certainly looks a lot like the popular series, but that’s not the end all be all. In his preview, Destructoid staff writer Steven Mills described the game as “not just Far Cry: Blue Edition,” despite his initial impression that Avatar looked just like a Far Cry game.

So if you’re a Far Cry fan, this may still be the game for you. But overall, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora should offer you more than just a new paint job.
