Wakestones are an important item in Dragon’s Dogma 2, and the Dragon’s Gaze item is a great way to track down the fragments. However, you may be hesitant to use it, so I’ll give you the rundown on how to use Dragon’s Gaze in Dragon’s Dogma 2 — ain’t that a mouthful.
Here’s the important part: Dragon’s Gaze is not a consumable. That is to say that, if you use it, it doesn’t disappear from your inventory and you can continue using it whenever you want. There is no limit on how many times you use Dragon’s Gaze.
This also means that you don’t need to carry around more than one. I’ve come across four Dragon’s Gaze in my time in Dragon’s Dogma 2. It isn’t a unique item.
How to use Dragon’s Gaze
Using Dragon’s Gaze is as easy as opening the inventory, moving the cursor over it, and then selecting Use from its menu. Nothing fancy.
What it does is display Wakestone Shards on your map in your immediate vicinity. It won’t tell you where every Wakestone Shard in the world is, just the ones in your surroundings. They appear on the map as their UI icon.
Another thing to keep in mind is that this doesn’t mean you can access where these Wakestone Shards are. They might be behind a locked door only available on a quest. It might be on a high ledge that you can’t immediately reach. It just tells you where the shards are around you, not their accessibility.
Where to get Dragon’s Gaze
As I mentioned earlier, you can find a Dragon’s Gaze in many places. The one I see most frequently cited is up in Vernworth castle’s tower on the fourth floor. Another one I can name is in the Pilgrim’s Inn – Flagship in Bakbattahl. I’ve received one as a quest reward from Brant for completing The Nameless Village. They turn up, and you only need one.
What you should really take away from this guide is that the Dragon’s Gaze is not consumable. It is not a unique item. And it reveals Wakestone Shards, but only in the immediate area.
