There’s a new feature in Tekken 8 that eases newer players into the combo system called Special Style. You may accidentally have it on in a fight, which can throw you off if you aren’t paying attention. Here’s how to turn off the Special Style as well as breaking down what that mechanic does in Tekken 8.
What is Special Style in Tekken 8?
If you are familiar with the “Simple Controls” mechanic that has been introduced into many fighting games, this is what Special Style is. It’s essentially a toggle that makes inputs way easier than their normal counterparts.
For example, turning this feature on will allow you to mash a button on your controller to perform a simple bread-and-butter (BnB) combo. You’ll only get one variation of a combo per character. You’ll also have a simplified way of performing your Power Crush, Special Move, and other fundamental moves like throws and lows.
In Tekken 8, a menu will pop up on your preferred character’s side. It’ll display the inputs needed to perform the aforementioned moves. It won’t be much use to go into the move list and try things out if you are in this mode, so you will have to toggle it off.
This mode is only recommended to new players who are still learning the ropes of the game.
How to turn off Special Style
To turn off Special Style, you simply have to press your left bumper (LB/L1) on your controller. Visit your controller setup and see if you have a button bound to that input. It’s L1 or LB by default, but there’s always a chance you could have set it to something else.
You can take a step further and not bind any of your buttons to this in the event of a wrong input in an online match. Though you can easily see if Special Style is on, it’s best to allocate buttons to other input combinations for throws, triple inputs, or Ki charges.
