Sonic Superstars includes four playable characters: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose. But that doesn’t mean you can’t dress up as other characters from the series, oh no. You can play Sonic Superstars as the penultimate boss of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Mecha Sonic, but there’s a bit of a catch: You have to spend more than just some shiny gold Medals.
You can only play as Mecha Sonic in Sonic Superstars if you purchase it for use in the in-game Battle Mode. The is available in the Digital Deluxe Edition, which goes for $69.99. If you have the base version of the game, you can buy the content for an additional $14.99 with the Digital Upgrade. Along with the Mecha Sonic parts, the edition also comes with the Lego Fun Pack, a Rabbit skin for Sonic, a digital art book, a mini soundtrack, and a few extra wallpapers for the main menu. It’s… up to you if you think it’s worth the price.
How do you equip Mecha Sonic parts in Sonic Mania – Battle Mode?
Now that you’re properly mad and down some cash, let’s find out how to enjoy your new investment. To use the Mecha Sonic parts, go to the Main Menu (if you’re not there already) and choose the ‘Battle Mode’ option. Select ‘Customize,’ where you can create your own mech for use in the Sonic-themed battle royale. Scroll down to ‘Downloadable Content’ and hit confirm. You should see the Mecha Sonic parts if you have the content. Hit the ‘Confirm’ button and your mech becomes Mecha Sonic. You cannot swap out body parts once you choose the skin. Repeat the steps to remove it.
You can now play as Mecha Sonic in the Sonic Superstars Battle Mode either online or offline locally with friends. Mecha Sonic doesn’t play any differently from other mechs; he just looks retro and cool. There are in-game parts for Metal Sonic, though, so maybe you can finally play out the battle fans have wanted for years.
