Sony’s new PSN terms of service doesn’t quite sit right with some gamers, since it asks them to waive their consumer rights in order to use the service. Fortunately, there’s a get-out clause that Sony has deftly provided. It takes a little effort, but you’ll have the thrill of knowing you did something American!
In order to opt out of the class action waiver, you need to confirm it with Sony — in writing — within thirty days. You need to include your name, your address, your PSN account number, and a clear statement that you do not wish to resolve any potential legal disputes with Sony through an arbitrator.
I’m not a fan of suing anybody, but on prinicpal alone, I am fairly certain I’ll be sending a letter tomorrow, just because I like preserving my rights wherever possible. For many people this isn’t a big deal, and that’s cool, but if you are concerned, at least Sony provided a way out.
