On today’s “Cooking with Link” we’re going to learn how to make Porridge in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This staple food is a classy step up from gruel and an excellent dish to serve to people you don’t completely hate but aren’t looking to impress, either..

In particular, this dish is needed to complete the quest, Gloom-Borne Illness. Taking place in Kakariko Village, you need to complete this quest to reduce the price of a pair of armor sets down to less galling prices. During this quest, you’ll be given clues to the recipe, but the mention of “wild greens” can be confusing. Especially if, like me, you’ve never met a vegetable in your life.

Porridge consists of two key ingredients: Hylian rice and milk. The “wild greens” part is a bit less clear, especially when it describes them as “easily-digestible” vegetables.

What it means is, like, herbs or flowers. This includes things like Blue Nightshade and Hylian Herbs.

Where to find Hylian Rice in Tears of the Kingdom (Totk)

Hylian rice can be found in just about every patch of grass. If you spend enough time just slashing through the undergrowth, you’ll eventually come across a bundle of rice. A better way to get rice, however, is to just buy it at the general store in Hateno Village, which is also the best place to get milk. With both of these items in stock at all times, you can get your most important ingredients in one spot.

If you don’t want to spend rupees on milk, you can instead climb the hill above Hateno Village to visit the pasture. The Famer, Dantz, will trade you a bottle of Fresh Milk for three acorns. Once you have Hylian Rice, Fresh Milk, and your “wild greens,” just drop the three into a pot, and you’ll get your porridge. If you’re doing this for the Gloom-Borne Illness quest, use Sundelions as your wild greens. They can be picked in abundant quantities from just about any of the sky ruins.
