The Chu-Bai Spear is a weapon you can unlock in the third chapter of Black Myth: Wukong, and if you’re at all specced into Thrust Stance moves, you should make getting it as early as possible your top priority.
The Spear uses the same Light Combo moves as your staff, does 75 damage on its own, and boosts the damage of Thrust Stance attacks. To unlock the ability to craft the Chu-Bai Spear, you have to complete the Pagoda Realm Prisoner’s questline. You’re first introduced to the prisoner when you start Chapter 3. He’s locked into the cell next to you, and you’ll need to break the purple seals before you can have a proper conversation with him.
Once you’ve gotten to the Upper Pagoda shrine, turn around and drop down a hole in the floor. Fight and defeat Captain Lotus-Vision, then head back down to the first level of the Pagoda to speak with the prisoner. You’ll learn that he’s got some bad feelings about the Captains that roam the Pagoda realm, and he wants you to bring him their spirits. Once you do, he’ll give you the plans for the Chu-Bai spear.
How to get the Chu-Bai Spear
By the time you’ve gotten into the prisoner’s cell, you’ll already have obtained one of the four Captain spirits. The next one is waiting for you at the very top of the Pagoda. You have to beat Captain Wise-Voice to progress with the rest of the chapter anyway, but his boss battle also puts you halfway to the Chu-Bai Spear.
His fight can be incredibly tricky, and you need to make sure that you have access to the Pillar Stance before heading into it because a Pillar charged attack is the only reliable way to avoid Captain Wise-Voice’s devastating electricity attacks on the ground.Â
Here’s some good news for you: the next Captain’s spirit doesn’t require a boss fight at all. Captain Void-Illusion is already dead, so you just need to collect his spirit from his corpse. Progress through Chapter 3 until you reach the Longevity Road Keeper’s shrine in the Valley of Ecstasy. To the right of the shrine is a massive body with the Captain’s spirit floating behind it.
The last stop on this journey is another boss fight. Captain Kalpa-Wave is just a short way ahead of Captain Void-Illusion’s corpse. He’s guarding the entrance to the New Thunderclap Temple, but he’s got some unusual tricks up his sleeve.
Kalpa-Wave mostly uses stomp attacks, but he leaves behind pools of red liquid that deal damage over time when you’re standing in them. His legs are his weak point, though, and if you deal heavy damage to them he can be staggered pretty easily. Just make sure to lure him away from the red liquid before you go in for the kill.Â
Once you’ve obtained all the spirits, head back down to the prisoner’s cell in the Lower Pagoda. He’ll give you the Chu-Bai Spearhead, which combines with 4 Iron Sand, 8 Yaoguai Cores, and 21,000 Will to form the Spear. Now that you’ve got it, get to stabbing!
