Living Water is one of the curiosity items in No Man’s Sky. The item does not have persistent use across the gameplay of NMS but it is required to build the Impossible Membrane. The item is part of the Starbirth mission. Players receive Living Water from Chield of Helios during the Starbirth mission.
How to start Starbirth mission
Child of Helios is a giant jellyfish you find in No Man’s Sky, which rarely happens outside the Starbirth mission. If you’re looking to start the Starbirth mission, purchase a Void Egg from the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion at Space Anomaly. Use the Pulse Drive in space until you encounter a strange starship. This will activate the Void Egg, which will lead to location reveal for several new technologies.
How to get Living Water
Impossible Membrane can be crafted with 150 Living Water, 100 Chromatic Metal, and one Hypnotic Eye. To get Living Water in No Man’s Sky, players have to first complete the challenge of retrieving a Hypnotic Eye during this mission.
Afterward, players receive Living Water from Child of Helios during a space encounter. Players can activate Pulse Engine up in space through their starship to trigger this interaction. Upon meeting the Child of Helios, you will receive 150 Living Water.
Tips and tricks
There is also a way to obtain even more Living Water. Once interaction with Child of Helios ends, players can keep the obtained Living Water and then activate another Pulse Engine jump to trigger a second encounter with Child of Helios. This process can then be repeated multiple items to gain a large quantity of Living Water.
In each inventory slot, there can be a maximum of 150 Living Water. Players can use Living Water for trading, and they can sell 150 Living Water for around 240,000 Units. As long as players do not craft the Impossible Membrane, they can continue to trigger an encounter with Child of Helios and obtain more Living Water.
How to find Child of Helios outside Starbirth mission
Apart from the interaction with Child of Helios during the Starbirth mission, an interaction with Child of Helios is purely up to chance and it is a rare occurrence in the game. Your only hope of encountering Child of Helios is using the Pulse Engine in a star system. Players usually seek Living Water since an Impossible Membrane be used to design a Living Ship in No Man’s Sky.
