How to get Hydrapple in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk

We're evolving.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk mostly focuses on returning Pokemon, but there are some all-new monsters in the mix as well. Hydrapple is an especially interesting beast in particular, since getting it technically spans the entirety of the base game plus both its DLC packs.

To get Hydrapple, you first need to catch an Applin. You can check out our guide on how to do that here, but note that it’s quite an elusive little bugger. Now, even though you can evolve Applin into Flapple or Appletun, you do not want to do that. Instead, in The Teal Mask DLC, you need to evolve Applin into Dipplin using the Syrupy Apple item. After that, you can evolve Dipplin into Hydrapple by leveling it up after teaching it the move Dragon Cheer.

That’s a lot, isn’t it? Fortunately, completing this entire chain of events isn’t too difficult. You just need to know where to look.

Where to find the Syrupy Apple item to evolve Applin into Dipplin

We covered this process in detail here, so give that a read if you’d like. However, if you just want to move things along, I’ve got you covered. First, you want to head to Kitakami (the area The Teal Mask takes place in). Look on the bottom right side of the map, and you should see a fast travel location called “Mossfell Confluence” if you’ve unlocked it already. Fly to here, and travel to the location pictured above.

Here, you’ll find a stand where you can purchase Syrupy Apples for a mere 500 Pokedollars. Afterwards, go into your item bag and look for the Syrupy Apple under the “Other Items” category. Use it on Applin and you’ll have your own Dipplin.

Where to find the Dragon Cheer TM to evolve Dipplin into Hydrapple

With Dipplin in your party, now there’s the matter of teaching it Dragon Cheer. And while you can craft this TM, you can get it for free in The Indigo Disk. To grab it, you need to defeat Drayton of the Blueberry Academy Elite Four. This will happen naturally as you progress the main story, so don’t sweat it too much. If you’ve already beaten him, then you must already have the TM!

Once you have the move in hand, use the TM on your Dipplin and level it up. Upon reaching the next level, Dipplin will achieve its final form of Hydrapple. Congratulations!
