Glass is a useful commodity to have in No Man’s Sky, especially since the material is used as an ingredient to craft over 40 items in the game. The tradeable item is mostly used for construction, and base-building but there are decorative items that also require glass in No Man’s Sky to build.
There are two ways to get Glass in No Man’s Sky. The first method allows you to build Glass after obtaining Frost Crystals and learning the required blueprint.
How to get Glass in No Man’s Sky using Frost Crystals
Frost Crystals are a type of resource in No Man’s Sky that can be harvested from the leaves of Frostwort. Since Frostwort requires frozen conditions, you will find them on frozen planets. However, if you cannot find Frostwort, you can also farm the plants in any environment by using a Hydroponics Tray.
As for the blueprint, you might find it in a Manufacturing Facility or Operations Centre, but the quickest way to obtain it is through the Synthesis Laboratory where you can buy it for 250 Nanites. Given that 250 Nanites is not a major price, you should save your time looking for the blueprint organically, and just buy the blueprint instead. For those unfamiliar, the Synthesis Laboratory is a research terminal that you can find at the Space Anamoly.
Once you have Frost Crystals and the blueprint, you can create 1 Glass per 40 Frost Crystals.
How to refine Glass in No Man’s Sky
The second way to get Glass in No Man’s Sky is through through a refiner. There are three ways to refine Glass in No Man’s Sky. The first recipe follows the same process, where you get 1 Glass by refining 40 Frost Crystals. The second recipe can make you 1 Glass by refining 40 Silicate Powder, whereas the last recipe provides 1 Glass when you refine 50 Cyto-Phosphate and 50 Salt.
For Frost Crystals and Silicate Powder, you can use any refiner, including a portable refiner. However, you will need at least a medium refiner for the Cyto-Phosphate and Salt process.
The easiest way to make Glass is through the Silicate Powder method. All you need to get Silicate Powder in No Man’s Sky is to start digging a tunnel on the land surface of any planet by using the Terrain Manipulator option, and you’ll start farming Sillicate Powder.
Both Salt and Cyto-Phosphate are comparatively harder to get your hands on since you need to be underwater in order to find these resources. This can become quite a task if you don’t have the necessary upgrades to survive for long when underwater.
Alloy Window, Bio-Dome, Bio-Lantern, Living Glass, Marine Shelter, Mind Ark, Terrarium, and Viewing Sphere are some of the items in No Man’s Sky that require Glass as an ingredient.
