How to get Dark in Hades 2

I can’t unhear Darkness in Hades’ voice.

Hades 2 Chaos

While most games would list a handful of resources early that you’ll need throughout the game, Hades 2 is a different beast. You’ll need plenty of early resources for various recipes, but new ones are introduced as late as after your first victory. These factor into late-game upgrades and can be utterly invaluable. One such resource is tough to get but plays into select upgrades for your arsenal. Here’s how to get Dark in Hades 2.

Where to find Dark in Hades 2

Dark is acquired from the Chaos realm, which is accessed through the occasional Chaos portal found in a run. These require some health to be sacrificed but can make for a good challenge/reward boon. Once you’ve spoken to Chaos enough and progressed the story with them, they will eventually mention Dark and reward you with one for free. From there, you’ll sometimes find Dark when visiting the Chaos realm and be able to pick it up. You don’t need a specific tool for it.

While you’re in the realm of Chaos, you can score both Plasma and Origin Seeds. The latter is especially important since it allows you to grow Thalamus, a resource used in a specific Incantation to reach the surface. If you haven’t gotten to the surface yet, it’s highly suggested you bring a shovel to try and get some seeds while grinding for Dark.

What is Dark used for?

As far as we can tell, there are two specific uses for Dark. The main use is for late-game Grasp upgrades, which allow you to take more Arcana cards with you. However, certain weapon Aspects such as the Aspect of Thanatos seem to require Dark as well. You should visit Chaos as often as possible to get an early surplus of Dark, saving you time later.
