Batteries not included
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom introduces an unimaginable number of ways to get around Hyrule. If you can stick wheels onto it, you can drive it. If you can glue it to some wings, you can fly it. However, if you want to go very far, you’ll probably want to upgrade your Energy Cells (the little battery icons).
I’m going to warn you right now that increasing your Energy Cells can be a long process. You need to find Crystallized Charges to trade for more Energy Cells, which aren’t easy to come by. The quickest way to do it involves diving into a chasm and plumbing the depths. Down there, you’ll find Crystallized Charges in a few places, and there are also Forge Constructs that you can give Zonaite in exchange.
Plumbing the underworld
There are several chests dotting the depths, and many of them will reward you with a wad of Crystallized Charges. These are thankfully not too difficult to spot in the gloom. Usually, if you see small white lights in the darkness, they’re marking one of these chests. These lights are distinctly paler than the blue poes, the red enemies, or the yellow Lightroots that you see in the distance. The lights also often (but not always) appear in pairs.
You’ll also acquire Crystallized Charges by felling the boss monsters that roam the underworld, such as the Stalnox. The big baddies will not only drop larger items worth 20 Crystallized Charges, but they’ll also drop Zonaite, which can be traded for more. If you’re a capable giant killer, this can be a good way to get your Charges. It’s especially useful, as they reappear every blood moon, so you will always know when it’s time to return to the harvest. The biggest downside is that these are some of the most dangerous foes in the game, so be careful.
Trading Zonaite
Finally, you can trade Zonaite for Crystallized Charges at Forge Constructs. Zonaite is most easily found in the depths, and if you come across any abandoned mines, you can find huge deposits of the mineral. Many enemies drop Zonaite, which is good because you’re going to need a tonne of it to get the number of Crystallized Charges you need to upgrade your Energy Cells.
As for the actual Forge Constructs, there’s one of these on Great Sky Island. It only carries about ten crystallized charges before needing to restock. However, you can find more Forge Constructs in the depths, usually directly beneath settlements on the surface, and they carry far better stock in Crystallized Charges. There’s also a prominent Forge Construct in the Abandoned Central Mine. If you want to restock the forges immediately, you can drop down a fire, and wait until morning. Afterward, save the game, exit to main menu, and reload the save. The forges should be restocked.
However, the exchange rate to get Crystallized Charges is extremely terrible. It takes 3 Zonaite to get one Crystal Charge. That means 300 Zonaite for a single pip on your Energy Cell. Not the best, but with how rare Crystallized Charges can be, it’s one of the most reliable ways to get the heaps needed.
Generally, you’ll want to do a combination of the above-suggested methods. The bottom line, however, is that you’re going to need to hunt through the gloom.
