Where to find Ice Pikmin in Pikmin 4

To freeze water, you’ll need Ice Pikmin. You encounter your first Ice Pikmin in the underground Last-Frost Cavern, which is accessible from the Sun-Speckled Terrace. To get there, you have to complete Day 1, which consists of crafting your own character and learning the basic controls.

If you need more Ice Pikmin head to Hectic Hollows (which is also underground) after you’ve unlocked Oatchi’s jump ability. If you’re having trouble finding the blue critters, have your dog sniff them out.

After you’ve collected a few Ice Pikmin, all you have to do is aim them at a body of water. If you have enough of the critters on your team, the water will freeze up. Note that larger bodies of water will require larger amounts of Ice Pikmin, and upon selecting the Ice Pikmin type, you’ll see just how many you require before you toss them in.

This is useful in a few contexts. For example, if you need to cross a body of water, freezing it will make it possible. You can also freeze Hydro Jelly if it is blocking your path. Once it has been turned to ice, it is easy for Oatchi to break it.

There are plenty more types of Pikmin to discover, and they each come with their own special abilities. Collect them all, and you may just save the day.
