How to find diamonds in Tears of the Kingdom (TOTK)

The richest gem in all of Hyrule

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom includes a lot of different gems for you to collect and use. From sapphires to rubies, there are many different ones, but none compare to the diamond. It is the most valuable gem you can find in the game, but it is quite elusive at the same time. Here’s what you need to do to get it.

How to find diamonds in Tears of the Kingdom

There are a couple of main ways to find a diamond in Tears of the Kingdom. Some of them are much easier than others, so it is worth considering which one works best for you.

Caves

First up is the simplest method: mining diamonds through ore deposits. In some caves and especially in the Depths, there are rare ore deposits. You can notice these because they have a white or yellow effect that sparkles when you see them.

This indicates that there are potentially some rare gems inside. You aren’t guaranteed a diamond when you mine these, as it is completely random, but this is a solid method to get them. Better yet, you can unlock the Sensor+ upgrade for the Purah Pad and take a picture of these deposits.

Then you’ll know when you’re close to another one.

Chests

There are a few chests in Hyrule that gift you the diamond. In general, they are usually certain shrine chests, including some of the Rauru’s Blessing ones. Here is a list of a few shrine chests to get you started:

  • Jochi-Ihiga shrine (3811, 1219, 0104)
  • Maoikes shrine (2275, 0149, 0085)
  • Sihajog shrine way up in the sky by Valor Island (4545, -0846, 1134)

Shop

There is even a shop that sells diamonds in Goron City. Head here and go to the Goron trader just outside of the armor shop and you can buy up to three diamonds here for 1,000 Rupees each. The main purpose of this is if you quickly need a diamond for something like the duplication glitch—assuming you have an older version that can do that.

Dondons

Dondons are found near the Lakeside Stable. If you head here and then give them a Luminous Stone for them to eat, they will leave you some gems after some time has passed. Diamonds aren’t guaranteed through this method, but you can save and reload until you get one.

What to do with diamonds

There are a few uses for diamonds. For one, they are some of the most valuable items to sell in the game for money, going for 500 Rupees each. In addition, they are great weapon attachments, offering +25 attack power to any weapon you attach it to.

Lastly, diamonds are needed for upgrades to the Miner armor set if you wish to get the most out of those three armor pieces.
