How to find, catch, and use Dr. Brawn in Palworld

Pal experimentation can be beneficial

Dr. Brawn in Palworld

Many new things were added to Palworld with the Feybreak update, some more elusive than others. Dr. Brawn is a new NPC who can perform Pal experimentation at your request, but he’s not easy to track down.

As if Palworld wasn’t morally questionable enough, with forced labor from Pals at your base and questionable relationships between Tower Bosses and their companion Pals, Dr. Brawn is now involved. When you interact with Dr. Brawn, you have the option for him to experiment on your Pals to alter their Passive Skills, but doing so comes at considerable risk.

Dr. Brawn is a new type of NPC who can spawn in “incident” spots anywhere in Palworld. You would usually find other NPCs or Huge Nests in these spots, and any of them could play host to Dr. Brawn at any time. There are hundreds of these potential spawn sites littering Palpagos, Sakurajima, and Feybreak, so I wouldn’t advise going on a tour of them each day to find Dr. Brawn.

A much easier way to almost “force spawn” Dr. Brawn is to pick a spot and then circle the area. Each time you leave the area at a great enough distance and then return, a new NPC or event will have spawned, allowing you to almost cycle through them until Dr. Brawn shows up. It’s good to have a fast flying mount such as Jetragon (or any other with speed-boosting Passive Skills) to get in and out of the area quickly.

Although there are many, many of these sites across the map, and you might get lucky and encounter him anywhere you roam, I’ve had the best luck finding Dr. Brawn in the desert region to the northeast of Sakurajima island and in another location on the peninsula to the east. I’ve marked the location on the map below:

I’ve also had some luck finding him at two locations relatively close to home on the starter islands, with one location being to the north and one to the south of the Small Settlement fast travel point, as shown below:

How to catch Dr. Brawn in Palworld

Once you’ve found Dr. Brawn, you can talk to him and have him perform some experimentation. However, once you’ve done this and left the area, you’ll have a hard time finding him all over again the next time. If you want easy access to Dr. Brawn’s special skills, it’s a good idea to catch him.

To do this, you’ll want weapons, ammunition, and the best Pal Spheres you can craft. I’d recommend using Exotic Spheres if you have a stock of them, but Legendary Spheres will do if you’re in a pinch and have a large number of them available. Get Dr. Brawn’s health down as low as you possibly can without killing him outright, and then start throwing Spheres.

Even with Exotic Spheres, Dr. Brawn is hard to capture, and you’ll likely lose more than a few Spheres in the process. Still, persevere, and you’ll capture him soon enough.

Each in-game day, Dr. Brawn can perform Pal experimentation that changes your Pal’s Passive Skills and your own stats. If you want to make the most of Dr. Brawn’s abilities, remember that you can change the length of both days and nights in the game settings menu, allowing you to use his services more often.

Dr. Brawn’s experiments can result in several different outcomes, both positive and negative:

  • Give a Pal a positive Passive Skill while losing a negative one
  • Give a Pal a negative Passive Skill while losing a positive one
  • Increase your own stats by 15 or 30
  • Decrease your own stats by 15 or 30

Unfortunately, what you end up getting seems to be entirely random, ranging from god-tier rolls to useless ones. This means you should pick a specific Pal you can use repeatedly until you get a preferable Passive Skill and then can use it to breed that skill into its offsprings. A good choice for this is Yakumo, which can be used to breed almost any other type of Pal, letting you farm some incredibly strong and useful companions.
