How to farm Lynel Guts in Tears of the Kingdom (TotK)

No Guts, No Glory.

The Lynels are among the most fearsome foes to be found in Hyrule. They look like centaurs, and they attack rapidly, making light work of most shields in Tears of the Kingdom. These monsters are best saved for the late-game hours when Link has stronger weapons.

Learning how to deal with Lynels is necessary, as they drop precious loot. Farming Lynel guts is no easy task, but this guide will explain the most efficient ways to do it.

Lynel Locations in Tears of the Kingdom

To farm Lynel guts, you’ll need to defeat  Lynels. They aren’t too hard to find, and there are a few areas on the map where they tend to pop up. The easiest Lynel to deal with is the red-maned one, and the easiest place to find it is in the West Hyrule Plains around the following coordinates: -1519, 0244, 0108.

Alternatively, head to the nearby Lake Illumeni in the Gerudo region. A little north from the Turakawak shrine the Lynel can be found roaming. The coordinates are: -3410, -0058, 0089.

By alternating between these two Lynels that respawn after every Blood Moon, Lynel guts can be obtained. There are other Lynels, including the Blue Maned, White Maned, and Silver varieties, though these are harder to defeat.

Another reliable, but harder, method is to visit the Floating Coliseum in the Depths. It lies west of the Nogukoyk Lightroot, east of the Mu-ustust Lightroom, and north of the Kogoir Lightroot. You may encounter a Lynel on the way there at the following coordinates: -1423, -1299, -0485. It has armor so don’t take it lightly.

Inside the coliseum, Link is tasked with defeating five Lynels in a row. Completing the challenge will require a full inventory of weapons and shields. However, it also provides a reliable means of farming Lynel guts. As a bonus, a Majora’s Mask headpiece is the reward for surviving the coliseum.

How to Farm Lynel Guts From Lynels

Though Lynels are daunting, there are ways to overcome them. The Lynel is fast and aggressive, so when it has its sights on Link, it’s already a bad situation. When dealing with the Lynel, stealth is key.

Obtain the Lynel mask from Kultin by giving him Bubbul Gems. To unlock the mask, all the other rewards need to be won first. With the mask worn, Link will be able to get close to a Lynel without being attacked. Stealth can also be established by using a Puffshroom. Fusing it onto an arrow and striking a Lynel creates a smokescreen, allowing Link to get behind it and deliver a sneakstrike with his strongest weapon.

If stealth isn’t possible, the next best option is to get some height. This can be done by climbing, creating an updraft from a fire, or dropping a Zonai fan. Land on the Lynel’s back and wack away until Link is thrown off or the monster is defeated.

What are Lynel guts used for in TotK?

Though it is difficult to farm Lynel guts, it is worth it, as Lynel guts can be used to upgrade certain pieces of armor, including the Fierce Deity set and Soldier’s Armor set. It can also be used as an ingredient to make powerful elixirs. While they can technically be used to dye your clothes at the Kochi Dye Shop, we don’t recommend using such a rare item for the process.
