How to dress Trad Goth in Dress to Impress Roblox

Welcome, my groovy ghoulies and disaffected demons. While Roblox‘s Dress to Impress might have you putting together outfits designed to win the approval of others, it also affords us the opportunity to embrace our true selves. While that meaning varies from person to person, those with an affinity for trad goth have several options available.

There are a few constants to be mindful of when it comes to the trad goth look, my handsome hobgoblins. While these staples should be acknowledged, they’re not a rigid necessity. Trad goth is about embracing your true self, inner darkness and all.

• The more black, the better
• Black makeup (eyes, lips, and nails)
• Layers are great
• Big, messy hair in the vein of Robert Smith

Unfortunately, my ghastly gents, Dress to Impress doesn’t have many options for you. As such, we need to rely heavily on layering black clothing and getting the messiest hair possible.

In terms of clothing, the leather jacket, the tight tee, and tighter jeans are the picks. The studded belt is a fantastic accessory, and any shoe will do, as they all look the same when dyed black.

When it comes to dying clothing black, don’t forget all of the different sections. Black shoes with green accents just look weird. Also, don’t make everything jet black as the details will be lost. A dark grey still conveys the look while allowing details to pop.

As for the hair, I’ve layered several different styles to make it as big and messy as possible. I also applied the same dying rules with some of the hair pieces having dark brown or dark grey. Black is great, but not at the cost of looking like a blob.

Dress to Impress has exponentially more options for a would-be Siouxsie. The heavy boots are an easy pick thanks to the alternatives largely being variations of a stiletto. The sheer leggings pair marvelously with the pleated skirt. As for the top, I layered a tied sweater atop a cami. A jeweled necklace dyed black serves well as a choker.

The nails are painted black and our face is the only one with black lipstick. The hair is an amalgamation of different styles layered atop one another to create that iconic look. Each is a subtly different shade so as not to look like a shapeless mass.

What is Trad Goth?

Trad goth is a style of fashion within the goth “subculture.” It stems from the rise of its namesake, the traditional goth culture that arose during the 1980s. Notable examples of pioneers would be the bands Bauhaus, Joy Division, and Siouxsie and the Banshees.

It was born out of the punk movement that began a decade earlier in the ’70s, with the term “gothic” being used as a descriptor of the mood and atmosphere shows projected. The music stood in stark contrast to the pop music of the time and served as a beacon for many.

In the decades since, people have taken the basis and modified it, eventually leading to evolutionary styles. Deathrock, Victorian, and cybergoth are a few of the more common styles in the West. That’s not to say the goth culture is limited to these places. Visual Kei arose in Japan during the same time and its later gothic stylings were championed by groups like Dir En Grey and Malice Mizer.
