The Final God of Pain
You’ve traversed Destiny 2‘s new raid, The Root of Nightmares, with your fireteam and now you’ve reached the raid’s final boss, Nezarec. In this encounter, you’ll use everything you’ve learned throughout Cataclysm, Scission, and Macrocosm to finally overcome Nezarec himself.
Entering the raid, you’ll see a light orb on the left and a dark orb on the right. The aim of the encounter is to connect all the nodes together in order to trigger a damage phase, whilst withstanding Nezarec’s attacks. One person each will connect light and dark orbs whilst two people work on clearing the enemies. Focus on the Colossus that spawn around the arena as these will give the runners more time to connect their orbs once killed.
The final two people should work on hitting Nezarec’s weak spots on his shoulders and chest. Once both shoulders have been hit, he will flash light or dark which signifies which kind of wipe mechanic he is going to deploy. Hit his weak spots as soon as they glow, much like Rhulk from the Vow of the Disciple raid, and the phase for the runners will be extended slightly. This gives your team more time before you need to delay the wipe mechanic.
Occasionally, Nezarec will hit you with a debuff called Nezarec’s Hatred which causes you to bounce uncontrollably whilst taking damage. Someone else should shoot his weak spots to remove this from you.
Delaying the wipe mechanic
You can delay these deadly waves of damage by getting a refuge buff of the correct type. If Nezarec flashes white after having his weak spots shot, the person connecting the darkness nodes must grab the darkness buff and take it to an activated light node. You cannot take it to the node that is currently emitting the aura. Shooting the light node will create a light refuge that lasts for 14 seconds once you move away from it. Collect the refuge and continue to evade Nezarec.
With this safety buff, the runners can continue to connect the nodes. Connecting all of them will trigger the damage phase. Stand on a platform of your choice and put as much damage into Nezarec as possible. Having a Warlock on your team place a Well of Radiance is a great survivability tactic for this encounter.
Rinse and repeat and you’ll have finally defeated the Final God of Pain, Nezarec.
