If you want to change archetypes in Remnant 2, expect to put in a lot of work for it. You’ll grind for hours, trying to get the second archetype slot. On top of that, this game’s pretty hard, even on the easiest difficulty. Here’s how to change archetypes in Remnant 2.Â
When can you change archetypes in Remnant 2?
First and foremost, you can’t change your prime archetype in Remnant 2. If you’ve picked the Gunslinger, for example, you have to stick to that class’ primary abilities unless you start an entirely new game. Thankfully, you can skip the lengthy tutorial.
However, you can get a second archetype in Remnant 2. You’ll need to get your prime archetype to at least Level 10. Then, the second archetype will be available to you. It’s a lengthy process and took me until the end of the second world to reach that level. If you’re struggling with the difficulty of the game, you can reduce it down to Survivor and keep your experience. The only caveat is that you have to restart the game from the beginning.
Find the right items
Once you’ve gained the secondary archetype spot in Remnant 2, it’s actually cryptic as to how to add a Medic or a Handler class. First, you’ll want to find the item that’s required to make the second archetype. These beginner archetypes can be found from the following in Ward 13:
- The Challenger can be retrieved from buying the Old Metal Tool from Reggie
- The Handler is given from the Old Whistle by Mudtooth
- The Hunter is from the Rusty Medal held by Brabus
- The Medic is gained by getting the Medic Pin from Dr. Norah
- Finally, the Gunslinger is retrieved by finishing two worlds and listening to 23 of Mudtooth’s stories. You’ll get the Iron Cylinder for your trouble.
As you progress through the story, you’ll be able to add archetypes like the Engineer and Summoner as your secondary.
How to add a secondary archetype
After gathering the item you need, head up to Wallace. He’s by the scaffolding where the less-than-sea-worthy ships lay bare. For example, with Wallace, the Medic class Caduceus Idol can be crafted. You’ll need 1 Medic Pin, 10 Lumenite Crystals, and 1,000 Scrap. Finally, when you have the engram crafted, go to your character menu and select the second archetype slot. It should be flashing in yellow. Confirm the engram you want to be equipped, and you now have that archetype’s abilities.
