How to beat Lingxuzi in Black Myth: Wukong

Lingxuzi is the first really monstrous-sized boss you will run into in Black Myth: Wukong. He is guarding the ruins of an old temple, so prepare to say your prayers while you fight for your life.

You can find Lingxuzi, the wolf demon, at the Guanyin Temple in Black Myth: Wukong. Honestly, he is not a particularly tough fight because of one major consideration that the devs have taken into account when designing his moves.

Unlike some bosses in other games, this guy spends a lot of his time repositioning. It means some very nice damage windows. He also appears to have been designed to try to stay away from the outside of the arena, so he never really tries to push you into a corner through raw aggression. Not every boss in the game will afford you this kindness, so enjoy it while it lasts.

Let’s take a look at his attack patterns to figure out what we can exploit:

• Lingxuzi will take a dive forward, seeming to hand in the air for a moment. He will draw back his right arm, wait a moment, then swipe, then quickly swipe with his left hand. I found it best to dodge forward for the right arm, and this will allow you to dodge left, keeping you far enough away from the other swipe. It seems to keep the tracking on the swipes sensible. After that, he repositions with his own dodge backward.
• If he sits back on his hind legs a little, he is getting ready to howl. This will do area-of-effect damage, so you are better off just backing up a little and letting him do it, then punishing the slow animation afterward.
• From time to time, after he lands a blow with his right claws, he will stop to lick his paw, as if he is tasting your blood. This is an excellent damage window, and you can hit him with a solid combo while he is doing it.
• A couple of times during the fight, he will jump up on the roof of the temple, then back down again, launching himself at you. This is something of a long con. The first time he does it, he jumps quite slowly, and it’s a pretty easy dodge. He will then take a single swipe at you. The second time he climbs up, he comes off the roof like a bullet, so don’t expect the same easy dodge, and when he lands, he’ll be a lot more aggressive. The moments should happen as you shave away one-third of his health bar.
• Many of his attacks are just short, sharp swipes. It is quite hard to figure out what he plans on doing sometimes, as the animations for these don’t give much away. The easiest thing to do is stay mid-distance, and when you know he is not following with another swipe, step in and punish him.
• The ability to charge your focus points while moving is a really good option for this fight. Well, it’s a really strong option for every fight. Spec into it if you haven’t, then just charge up heavy attacks and let rip when it is safe to do so.

The best advice for this fight is to make sure you have already fought Guangzhi. He will give you a spell that allows you to adopt his form, and that will mean you can fight with a new health bar, and his flaming spear. The flaming spear does a lot of damage to our friend, the demon wolf, so you’ll be able to take away chunks of its health bar with ease.

Mostly, just be patient and stay in the center of the arena. You don’t want to get trapped against a wall with this guy, so make sure you are rolling away from the outside to avoid getting stuck anywhere.
