How substories work in Like a Dragon Gaiden

Stop by Akame's place for the side stories.

Kazuma Kiryu’s Gaiden adventure takes a few breaks from the series norm. And one way Like a Dragon Gaiden will feel noticeably different from previous titles is in its substories.

The Yakuza / Like a Dragon series is notorious for its wacky side quests, and those same substories are still present in Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. That said, the way you find them may be a bit more different, and organized, than you’re used to.

Like a Dragon Gaiden substories locations

Rather than finding them out in the open world, you pick up substories in Like a Dragon Gaiden through Akame and her Network. To get new ones, simply head to Akame’s place in Sotenbori and access her Network.

Head to the Request section of the menu, and you’ll find any available substories to complete.

Unlocking new substories

Different substories, or Requests, in the Akame Network will happen over time. It’s usually story-metered, so you’ll have to check back in over time. Or, head back once you’re nearly done or completely finished with the campaign, and playing Premium Adventure mode.

That said, while some substories are pre-requisites for others, it doesn’t seem like any are limited to specific chapters. Essentially, you can pick these up at any time, and not worry about losing substories as you progress through Like a Dragon Gaiden. It’s nice, for those who got stressed about missing content in previous games.

While I don’t expect to see the Akame Network return as an option right away, this method of handling the substory content in Like a Dragon Gaiden does take a load off the mind. Read more about this interstitial entry in the series in our review here.
