Settlements in No Man’s Sky allow players to act as the overseer of a population of people on a planet, giving them a wide range of tasks and decisions to take care of, in return for a steady source of resources.
Settlements in No Man’s Sky
The responsibilities of an overseer include keeping the people happy with their lives, improving the conditions of their settlement, resolving disputes between citizens, and even protecting the settlement against the Sentinels.
Amid all the space exploration and the game’s primary gameplay revolving around visiting a limitless range of star systems,Settlements are one of those aspects of the gameplay which keep you grounded and require you to be present as the overseer to look after the settlement.
As someone who loves a bit of management-sim gameplay anywhere I can find it, having a settlement to overlook is one of the most fun aspects of playing No Man’s Sky for me, and it’s an added bonus that you can get a steady flow of resources coming your way by taking care of the settlement every once in a while.
How many settlements can you have in No Man’s Sky
While it does sound great on paper, how many settlements can you have in No Man’s Sky, and can players take on the responsibilities of multiple settlements to gain different types of resources automatically? Well, the answer is sadly no, you can only be the overseer of one settlement in No Man’s Sky at a time.
While it is not possible to have multiple settlements under your wing, it is possible to renounce your command over a settlement and become the overseer of a different settlement. Players can choose this decision if they are out looking for a different kind of resource from a new settlement. Players can become the overseer of a settlement by investing in race-specific resources. For example, if it is a Gek settlement, you would require a certain amount of GekNip to make the claim.
How to find a settlement in No Man’s Sky
The easiest way to find a settlement in No Man’s Sky is by purchasing Settlement Charts from the cartographer at a space station. However, keep in mind that settlements cannot be found in Uncharted systems or Abandoned systems.
