16. There are sixteen chapters in the 2023 Resident Evil 4 remake. You can see for yourself by opening the challenges menu. Under the “Main Story” heading, you’ll find a list of objectives that correspond to each of the chapters.

Note that there are also sixteen “Clockwork Castellans.” If you’re astute, you might notice that this means there is one hidden in each chapter.

This structure is a bit different than the original release of Resident Evil 4. In the 2005 title, there were five chapters, broken into smaller parts. There were 19 total acts in the original version of Resident Evil 4, though that doesn’t mean there’s necessarily less game here.

Here’s an excerpt from our review that explains a bit more about how the game is structured:

Resident Evil 4 can be neatly sliced into three parts: the village, the castle, and the island. The first part was a major departure for the series, simply due to it being more rural and not including zombies. Zombies don’t really pop up at all in a direct interpretation of the word; instead, having you fight faster, smarter enemies that come in various flavors. So, while the locations of the latter two parts of the game are more familiar in terms of Resident Evil aesthetics, the enemies and change of control style makes it feel like a largely different game throughout.”
