How do you use the Energy Grapple in Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion?

That is one restrictive grappling hook.

Using the Energy Grapple in Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion may seem like it should be obvious. It is, it’s just not necessarily intuitive. I walked away from the game for a week or so, came back, and forgot it existed. So here’s how to use the Energy Grapple.

The two player characters, Danielle and Joseph Fireseed, have different ways of traversing the environments. Joseph’s is fairly self-explanatory; he fits in small areas. Danielle, on the other hand, picks up the energy grapple.

You can equip the energy grapple using the weapons wheel or by pressing ‘G’ on keyboard or up on the D-pad for controllers. Or whatever you have the ability bound to since the bindings are customizable.

When you’ve brought it up into view, you’re going to find you can’t just stick the grapple to anything. It only adheres to conspicuous glowing blue orbs. They’re obvious when you know what to look for, but even then, seeing them often relies on you looking up.

In fact, there are areas in Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion where it might not be obvious where you’re supposed to go at first. Chapter 4, for example, has a spot where you need to shoot out a window in the ceiling to reveal one of these orbs. The best way to know if there’s a grapple orb about is to look for one of Joseph’s crawlspaces. There are just holes in the wall that lead to blackness. If you’ve played as Joseph, you already know what you’re looking for.

The crawlspaces are easier to see, since they’re at ground level. If you spot one, that’s an indication that there is a grapple point nearby. Danielle can’t use the crawlspace, so she needs another way to continue. That would be a grapple orb.
