If you’re here, you probably already know exactly what chest in Super Mario RPG we’re talking about. Right before you enter Belome’s chamber in Kero Sewers, there’s a chest hovering above a ledge in plain view. So, how do you open the last chest in Kero Sewers?
I’m going to stop you right away. If you haven’t fought Belome yet but are trying to make sure no stone has gone unturned in Kero Sewers, it’s time to move on. The way to access that chest is not in Kero Sewers at all. You don’t actually get the opportunity to crack that crate until far later in the game when you’ve probably forgotten all about it.
If you’re combing the sewers trying to get up there, you’re wasting your time.
To access that chest, you need to wait until you get to a place called Land’s End. On your journey through Land’s End, you’ll eventually come to a place where you need to cross Sky Bridge, which has an accompanying mini-game. Right before you set foot atop the opposite ledge, near the end of Sky Bridge, there is a big gaping hole in the side of the cliff. That’s where you want to go.
You don’t need to cross Sky Bridge to get to the hole. You can actually enter from the path at the bottom of the area. You don’t need to drop down from above. It’s completely accessible from the ground. However, you need to watch for puffs of smoke coming out of it. You’re not actually jumping to get in the hole; you want to touch one of those puffs of smoke.
When you do, you’ll drop into a long cave. Follow this straight to the end, and you’ll find yourself back in Kero Sewers. You come out of a pipe up on a ledge that allows you to jump over to the small bridge that leads under the chest. Just don’t fall. If you fall, you’re going to be backtracking to Land’s End to try again.
Inside the chest is a Cricket Pie. Take this to the Frog Sage (formerly Frogfucius) and give it to him. He’ll reward you with 10 frog coins.
