How do Yoshi and Nabbit work in Super Mario Bros. Wonder?

Elephant Yoshi is only a dream

Yoshi and Nabbit present a bit of a conundrum in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. According to the recent Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct, players can run and jump as Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Yellow Toad, Blue Toad, and Toadette. Each of these character play identically, so you can safely select whoever your favorite character is. However, players can also select four different colored Yoshis in addition to Nabbit from New Super Mario Bros. U. What’s the deal with them?

In Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Yoshi and Nabbit have unique properties. Neither of them will take damage upon being hit, making them easier to play for beginners. However, they also can’t transform when they get power-ups. To compensate, the Yoshis will have many of their signature moves. This includes swallowing and spitting out enemies, floating in the air, and letting other players ride them. Meanwhile, Nabbit just appears to be Nabbit.

Do note that Yoshi and Nabbit can still lose lives, however. If they fall down pits, nothing will save them unless they have the proper Badge equipped.

What does elephant Yoshi and Nabbit look like?

Unfortunately, when we say “Yoshi and Nabbit can’t transform,” we mean it. Power-ups like the new elephant form are reserved for the main characters. Sure, playing Yoshi and Nabbit will make the game much easier. However, you’ll want to pick one of the regular characters if you want the full Super Mario Bros. Wonder experience.

There’s still much we have yet to learn about the game. We’ll keep you posted as we approach the release of Super Mario Bros. Wonder on October 20 for Nintendo Switch.
