We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Holmes & Watson is the closest you’re getting a Step Brothers sequel (at least until they cave to the pressure of tens of millions of dollars and just make it anyway).

Yes, the pair have joined forces outside Step Brothers before, like in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, but the musical cues present in trailer, predominantly “The Boys are Back in Town,” seems to acknowledge that fans of the cult favorite have been clamoring for the pair to get back together and now they have.

Also, while this duo hasn’t traditionally parodied other films directly, this movie at least seems to take some shots at the Guy Ritchie directed tandem of Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. See 0:53 seconds in when Ferrell narrates the calculations of his actions, for a very direct shadowing of Robert Downey Jr.’s best.

In any event, look forward to a couple of American’s doing a British accent, for a change, coming December 21, 2018.
