The new Riot Forge game builds up the Netflix library
Riot Games has been rolling out new announcements about its various games, all centered around the premiere of Netflix’s Arcane. The League of Legends universe has expanded out to a card game and TV show, and now it’s coming to the runner genre with Hextech Mayhem: A League of Legends Story.
Hextech Mayhem is developed by Choice Provisions, the makers of Bit.Trip RUNNER. Published under the Riot Forge label, Hextech Mayhem will launch on Nintendo Switch and PC on Nov. 16, and “soon” on Netflix.
The rhythm-runner stars Ziggs, the explosive yordle, on a mayhem-infused trek through Piltover. You tap and explode to the beat of the music, all the while avoiding Heimerdinger, a scientist trying to make the mayhem stop. Can’t let that happen, right?
Hextech Mayhem: A League of Legends Story is interesting for a few reasons, even if you’re not a League of Legends aficionado. One, it’s a new project from Choice Provisions, which garnered some acclaim for its Bit.Trip series.
It’s also a new game coming to the Netflix service. It doesn’t have a launch date yet, but Hextech Mayhem adding onto the Netflix lineup both makes sense as a tie-in with Arcane, and will help expand that service’s offering a bit more.
It’s also another project from the Riot Forge publishing label, which is set to roll out projects based in the League of Legends IP from various partner developers. One of those still in development is Ruined King, a single-player League of Legends RPG from Airship Syndicate.
Hopefully there’s more to see soon, as Riot confirms in a press release that it will have new details to share about Ruined King in the upcoming weeks. It seems like Arcane might be the jumping off point for Riot’s big expansion plans for League of Legends moving forward. And honestly, if it turns out as good as the first few episodes of Arcane have, it could be fun to follow.
Hextech Mayhem: A League of Legends Story arrives on Nov. 16 for Nintendo Switch and PC, via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store. It will come to Netflix soon.
