While E3’s generally all about the games, this year we saw a pretty big turnout for hardware too: video cards, new consoles, and of course more virtual reality than we really know what to do with.
So here’s a roundup of all things physical and kinda expensive we saw this year:
- Microsoft officially announces the Xbox One S, starts at $299
- Microsoft unveils its new, more powerful Xbox One ‘Project Scorpio’
- Make your Xbox One controller look pretty with the Xbox Design Lab
- AMD unveils its newest, Polaris-based graphics cards, new Zen CPU, and a VR backpack
- PlayStation VR is out on October 13, ’50 games’ still the goal this year
- The OSVR HDK 2: a $400 VR headset with Rift & Vive-like specs
- There’s a brand new Pip-Boy Bluetooth Edition with only 5,000 units worldwide
Honestly, I’m surprised VR didn’t have a bigger showing this year now that it’s out there in the open. I had a gut feeling Microsoft would announce something to compete with PS VR (maybe Oculus Rift support for the Scorpio?), so them not mentioning it at all was a bit of a shock.
