The Canadian Videogame Awards recently aired and, in amongst the hustle and bustle, a web address was shown onscreen leading to a countdown timer. The countdown at thereisnolist.ca ended last night, revealing what appeared to be an incomplete download code for the Xbox Marketplace. Tonight, a new update helps confirm those suspicions with a new entry referencing the PlayStation Network and another incomplete code appropriate for that online store.

These posts make references to a network protocol called “Crazy Eights” and a “Project Arkham” which may or may not be really significant. Additionally, a clickable seal in the corner of the page (which resolves to a 404 error) contained a little code around the fringe. Sleuths at alternate reality gaming forum unfiction quickly decoded it to reveal another web address, thegamertest.ca, though there is only a placeholder from registrar GoDaddy occupying the space at the moment.

For clues as to who might be responsible, we can look at the sponsors of the Canadian Videogame Awards. Doesn’t narrow the field too much though eliminating anything Activision does remove a lot of suspects. Admittedly, it doesn’t look as though all of the pieces are in place for solving this puzzle yet but it’s something we should keep an eye on.
