Following the Automaton’s invasion of Super Earth space, Helldivers 2 players are still thoroughly enjoying the game thanks to a new mission type.
Helldivers 2 players adore the new Evacuate High-Value Assets mission. After initially lamenting the return of the Automatons after beating them during Operation Swift Disassembly, players are now excitedly hopping into a new type of mission this defense-focused Major Order has brought with it. I can’t help but get swept up with their glee because these missions make it feel like you’ve just withstood an impossible onslaught of every Automaton on the planet, all trying to kill you at once.
Evacuate High-Value Assets is the best mission type in Helldivers 2 right now
Once the Automaton assault occurred, all Helldivers 2 players were called over from Terminid space so they could join the current Major Order: to defend at least five planets from the enemy successfully. To accomplish this, players must engage with the Emergency Evacuation and Evacuate High-Value Assets missions. But everyone loves the latter so much that it’s all we’re playing.
At the time of writing, the Helldivers 2 subreddit has a colossal appreciation post for the mission because the player base adores it so much. In these missions, you’re tasked with setting up defensive Stratagems such as the Gatling Sentry. You must then hold back the Automaton forces until all the rockets containing high-value assets have launched.
As the mission progresses, more and more Automatons arrive, including Tanks, Hulks, and swarms of smaller bots. They quickly work through your Stratagems and ammo, so you must pull back at certain points to a set of gates. There are three layers of gates, one outer and two inner. If the Automatons make it through the inner gates, you’re cooked.
I played a few of these last night and they’re just so much pure fun that I think they do the best job of embodying the Helldivers 2 experience. You drop in, have a fight with an alien faction that results in so many bullets and rockets flying around that the sky is constantly lit up, and then escape in a glorious dive into your Pelican.
I think the main contributing factor behind why Evacuate High-Value Asset missions are so fun is the tower defense element. I don’t know about you, but I adore a good tower defense game or system and always spend hours playing them when I get a chance. This mission is the Helldivers 2 equivalent, but you get to be in the action, launching a Stratagem over a wall before three Annihilator Tanks simultaneously explode and take a group of bots out with them.
A few other players shared the thought that this mission type feels a lot like Starship Troopers: “I really hope they use this on bug maps as well. We can finally re-enact that one scene from Starship Troopers.” There’s no denying that fighting the Terminids in these missions would be just as enjoyable, if not more so, but I’ll settle for the current Major Order for now.
