The most recent Major Order in Helldivers 2 tasked players with killing a colossal 100 million Terminids in three days. I hopped in and played a quick mission to do my part, but when I checked back three hours later, I realized that the community had annihilated the objective. Some players didn’t even realize it had started.
The previous Major Order in Helldivers 2 tasked players with defending X-45 over the course of a week or so, and it was incredibly tough. Players were forced to coordinate each time a planet had been successfully liberated or defended. When the new Major Order to kill Terminids rolled around, no matter how big the number, it automatically seemed much easier than what had come before. That’s probably why players so efficiently exterminated so many bugs in a handful of hours.
So fast, some players missed the Major Order
When I saw the Major Order disappear, I thought it might have been a glitch. A dispatch wasn’t sent in-game until the following day, which declared the community’s victory over the Terminid scum. However, killing that many enemies with such efficiency left a few players feeling blindsided.
Over on the Helldivers 2 subreddit, some players were asking the same questions I was, trying to understand if the Major Order was bugged or if everyone else had already killed all the Terminids before they got into a mission.
I think user ok_contract_3661 explains the situation best. “I think AH underestimated how much the community enjoys murdering bugs lol.” After fighting the Automatons for over a week with sequential Major Orders on the other side of the galaxy, fighting Terminids felt like a holiday.
It helped that every Helldives 2 player now has access to the Commando rocket launcher, which fires four separate incredibly powerful rockets. You can take out a Bile Titan in two shots using one of these, so it trivializes even missions on Impossible difficulty.
Given that developer Arrowhead Game Studios gave players three days to complete this Major Order, I’m not sure it thought we’d get through it so fast. At the time of writing, there’s no new Major Order, and players are flying around the galaxy, liberating whatever planets they feel like.
However, the latest in-game message in the galaxy map mentioned massive Terminid Spore Towers. While Super Earth’s Ministry of Science insists they likely aren’t an indicator of the enemy’s evolution or an incoming threat, they’ve been wrong before.
