One Helldivers 2 player reached out to the developer’s support team using a little roleplaying flair and had the best experience with a team member I’ve seen in a long time. This brings the Ministry of Truth to life in an entirely new way and extends the game’s lore in an unexpected way.
User SurrexSnek posted their incredible experience on the game’s subreddit, which began with a relatively simple request for a refund of 1,000 Super Credits for the Deluxe Edition upgrade. Instead of a standard support ticket, they sent a request for their refund using the voice and language a Helldiver would in-game. I’d expect the support team to have a good laugh at this but respond using standard language and process requests. They absolutely did not do that.
Freedom’s Blessings
SEAF Support Officer Zach responded with the best support email you could hope for as a Helldivers 2 fan. They kindly ask for SurrexSnek’s Steam ID so this refund can be processed and reference how the Ministry of Truth, a Super Earth government department, requires that ID to verify their Super Citizen identity.
Even this initial two-email exchange would be brilliant enough, but the pair keep it up for four more emails. SurrexSnek’s reply to the Stream ID request might have my favorite line in it, though. “By liberty, how could I possibly forget to give proof of my status! Those fiendish automatons sure do test our Ministry of Truth.”
I thoroughly recommend reading through the entire exchange because it brings me so much joy as a Helldivers 2 player, and I’m sure it will to the rest of the community. User IronLord56’s sentiment reflects mine and those of every other fan who has read the exchange.
“The fucking irony…Normally, with these kinds of things, when you get an email back, it’s an automated response, and if you are REALLY unlucky, you get a program that can’t or refuses to solve your issue and will either continue to send unhelpful responses asking you to do something you’ve probably already done, or stop replying altogether. You email Arrowhead and joke about the Automatons, and you get an actual god damn living person to reply and help you out.”
What made this stand out to me so much is that, as IronLord56 so eloquently put, a lot of live service game support teams might not have the capacity to respond to you in a timely manner, let alone put in the effort that SEAF Support Officer Zach has.
This support email chain feels like part of Helldivers 2‘s lore now. It’s expanded the bureaucracy of Super Earth and shown the inner workings of just one part of the Ministry of Truth. Thank goodness it was just about some Super Credits, not a procreation permit.
