Upcoming free-to-play mech game Hawken will have its world and fiction expanded via a web series produced by Warner Premier.
Though it’s not clear whether this will be an animated or live-action series with CGI (like the promotional shorts for the game), I can’t imagine it will be a low-budget series. The production company is banking on the success of Mortal Kombat: Legacy series which has received over 70 million views since launch. It’s hard to imagine that same success for a new series about mechs, but it will be an interesting production to watch develop, nonetheless.
DJ2 Entertainment, a collaborator on the series, snatched the rights to a film adaptation in August. It’s not completely clear whether that film project has been renewed as this web series.
“I assumed someone already got [the rights] because it was so huge. Big names were chasing this,” a DJ2 representative told TheWrap. “A-list directors and big hit agencies.”
Who knew this license would be a hot commodity? Many question still surround the project, but we’ll relay updates on the web series as Hawken‘s December 12 launch date draws near.
