It’s always fun to see what new mashups developers can come up with. Hand of Fate combines a card game with third-person action combat. Sure, why not?

It calls itself a deck-builder, though it isn’t entirely clear from the trailer or the description whether it is a collectible card game-style deck-builder (a la Magic: The Gathering) or if it follows the more current definition of the term. Regardless of how exactly the deck is built, cards are used as an abstract dungeon layout where the player’s pawn moves to uncover various combat scenarios. The viewpoint switches to third-person, where cards also act as the player’s abilities. Sounds neat, though a little hard to grasp at first.

Hand of Fate is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
